Nightlife in Tangerang - BSD - Gading Serpong [2024]

By Tibs →
This is a short overview of the nightlife in Tangerang and more precisely in Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) and Gading Serpong. Tangerang and South Tangerang are two separate suburban cities located about 20 kilometers from the center of Jakarta. You have probably been there without realizing it since the Jakarta airport (CGK) is actually in the northern part of Tangerang. When I first arrived in Jakarta in 2004, Tangerang was a conservative, working-class area that was flirting with sharia law. Alcohol was prohibited even in hotels and the police were arresting women simply for walking in the street alone at night . Since then, things have smoothed a bit, though not everywhere. The most visible transformation is happening in the privately-owned new cities that have emerged in recent years. I'm sure you are already familiar with a few of them such as:

Bishkek Nightlife - Best Bars and Nightclubs - Kyrgyzstan [2024]

By Tibs →
I stayed in Bishkek for a short week while visiting Kyrgyzstan in 2024. Naturally, I was curious to discover its nightlife, which was recommended to me by several friends. Since I was there during Ramadan, I was afraid the bars and nightclubs would be closed, but everything was normal, albeit slightly quieter than usual. My first difficulty was the lack of information about partying in Bishkek. Almost everything you'll find online is outdated or in Russian. Luckily, on my first night out I met an expat who lived in the city for 3 years and he took me everywhere I needed to go. Overall, I had fun, but the city has a provincial feel and if you are specifically interested in partying, I'll recommend heading to Almaty or Astana instead. This review is a summary of everything I learned about Bishkek nightlife. I hope you can leave comments about your own experiences as well to make it more interesting and to keep it updated. Gili Trawangan Nightlife - Best Bars and Nightclubs (Lombok) [2024]

By Tibs →
I wrote this summary of Gili Trawangan nightlife (Lombok) after spending 3 nights there in May 2024. I had not visited the island in almost 10 years, and yet it didn't change much. It is just a bit more crowded, more expensive and dirtier.  Most visitors are young Westerners between 20 and 30 years old. Among them, many are couples on their honeymoon or backpackers on a 6-month Southeast Asia tour. The latter aren't as numerous as in Bali or Thailand, probably because of the prices (overall you'll spend twice as much in the Gili's). They tend to stay for a short period of time only, on their way to other parts of Indonesia. The ones who stay longer usually work in diving centers and form the only real expat community on the island. Don't know anyone in the Gili's and you want to meet people? Check the Gili T Pub Crawl  which takes place every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday starting 7PM at  Tir Na Nog bar.

Singapore Nightlife: Best Bars and Clubs [2024]

By Tibs →
Singapore nightlife, once boring and sleepy, has become one of the best in Southeast Asia. The range of options for going out at night has no equivalent elsewhere in the region: Michelin-starred restaurants, top-ranked cocktail bars and nightclubs, world-class concerts, music festivals, and a vibrant cultural scene (opera, ballet, etc). Enjoying a night out in Singapore is safe, easy, and fun, with only one downside: It costs money. If you party from evening to dawn in the best nightclubs, bars and restaurants, expect to spend at least SGP 150-200 in one night. If you are new to the city and wondering where to party, here's a quick summary of everything you need to know.

Luang Prabang Nightlife - Best Things to Do At Night [2024]

By Tibs →
Luang Prabang, Laos' most touristic city, does not have the reputation of being a party town. While there are plenty of things to do during the day, from visiting temples to swimming in waterfalls, nightlife activities are much harder to find. There is a 11.30PM curfew on bars located in the city center, but if you go a little bit further away you can find a few clubs and KTVs open until 1AM. You also have the bowling center that closes at 2AM. Within these time limits, there are actually some interesting venues for drinking and having fun. In this short review, I will give you a list of my top 5 favorite nightlife activities in Luang Prabang. Best Things to Do at Night in Luang Prabang Nightmarket

Medan Nightlife: Best Bars and Nightclubs [2024]

By Tibs →
I spent a few days in Medan and I had the opportunity to try its nightlife. As you would expect, Medan is far from being a party town. It is more conservative than many other Indonesian cities and there are also very few tourists. The few foreigners you might meet there are often Singaporean and Malaysian businessmen, or English teachers. In spite of being Indonesia's third-largest city, the number of decent clubs and bars in Medan is low. To write this review of Medan nightlife, I had to include some underground clubs that most people wouldn't feel comfortable visiting. For this reason, if you are a "normal" clubber, I would only recommend trying the first three venues listed below.
