For those who are not afraid to swim in polluted waters, there is a white sand beach in Jakarta in Ancol. The beach is within the Taman Impian Jaya Ancol which costs Rp25,000 to enter.
Taman Impian Jaya Ancol
Within this park, you have a variety of popular tourist attractions including Dufan or Dunia Fantasi, a sort of DisneyLand themed park without the Disney characters (around 35$ entrance). There is also a waterpark called Atlantis Water Adventure (around 15$ entrance), different from Waterbom Jakarta which is located outside Taman Impian Jaya and is more expensive. You'll also find an Oceanarium, Ocean Dream Samudra, where you can see dolphin shows among other things (around 15$ entrance). The last main attraction is Ancol Eco Park, which is often used for company outings and features paintball, bike riding, bumper boats, flying fox, etc. You pay for each activity separately there.
Apart from these parks, Ancol has a bit of everything: Apartments, hotels (Mercure, Discovery), concert venues, a beachfront mall, a convention center, a lake, kid's playgrounds, shops, restaurants (Bandar Djakarta), cafés, a Dutch military cemetery, houses, and a lot of parking space and unused land. The maintenance is not very good so it sometimes look very tired depending on the area. At the east of the park, you have Pantai Carnaval Ancol, which is more upmarket with a Marina, water sport activities and more restaurants (including Segarra). To go around all these places, you can use the free shuttle Wara Wiri.

White Sand Beach
Recently, they have been building (or extending) a 3,5 kilometers white sand beach going pretty much from the McDonald's until the Ancol Beach City Mall. The project is not finished as of today but you can still stay on the beach and walk along it. If you go there in late afternoon, it is rather pleasant. Some people are swimming but I would not be comfortable doing so because of the pollution.
Ancol Beach City Mall is nice as well to have a drink. It is still almost empty and quiet except on weekends though.
How to reach Ancol's white sand beach
To reach it from South Jakarta, you will probably need a 2-hour car ride. Alternatively, you can take the busway as there are 3 lines that end up there.
