Blue Monkey Restaurant & Bar Jakarta

By Jakarta100bars →
Blue Monkey Restaurant & Bar is located in Foundry 8, next to Empirica . It opened in April 2014 and attracts the typical crowd of the area: Trendy Jakartans, hipsters, young executives, etc... The food is Modern International,  and one of the co-founders is a European expat. Opening Hours: Everyday from 11am to 11pm

Tom Tom Thai Restaurant

By Jakarta100bars →
Tom Tom is a Thai restaurant located on Level 5 of Grand Indonesia Mall. I decided to eat there because it seemed modern and chic from the outside. It is also closing at midnight instead of 10pm for most restaurants in Grand Indonesia. The food was not too expensive and its presentation was attractive, but unfortunately the taste is very far from what you could have in Thailand. I had a Green Curry (Rp 48k++) which had no spices at all (it tasted a bit like Opor Ayam if you know it). My friend had a Pad Thai (Rp 58k++) which was bland as well. The supposedly "Fresh" orange juice (Rp 30k++) was probably not 100% fresh (or it was done with local ones).

Empirica Jakarta ( SCBD, adjacent to The Foundry no8)

I went there a couple of times, being curious about a new club opening in Jakarta, and the place was very empty at the begining. The particularity of this place, like The Foundry No 8 close by, is that it is like a warehouse, a giant rectangular space filled with couches, tables and bar counters. So obviously the place has to be fully packed otherwise it will just look empty. The first thing that struck me is the flashy white colour, quite unusual for club, especially the walls and the couches. It is surprising, since many clubs actually have a black or very dark colours, but at the end it gives sort of a classy touch. As almost always in Jakarta, the music is electro and house music with pretty good sound system. The crowd is mostly middle and upper class Indonesian Chinese, with still relatively few foreigners. To be sure I was not missing anything, I went there for the Halloween party, "Empirica Lunatic Asylum". Basically the party theme was an abandone

The Foundry no8 ( SCBD, adjacent to Empirica Jakarta)

The Foundry no8 is located in the famous "Lot 8" of SCBD. It is an interesting and ambitious commercial  concept. On the ground floor, you will find several small shops, boutiques and restaurants. The whole area is called "A Collective Retail Space". The most interesting part for us is the Level II, where the club is located. As for Empirica ( see my review here ), which is adjacent to The Foundry no8, it is a big warehouse. You would even find steel containers and wood pallets in the club ! You also have couches and tables and a nice bar counter. The place is not nicely decorated and I find it very dark, even more than in a regular club. I went there a couple of times and the place was never fully packed. I think they have some regular customers who like this factory-style trendy place. But unfortunately, the place is not that trendy yet ! Overall : This is not a very busy place at the moment and I am not sure it will be in the n

Tartine Restaurant FX Mall

By Jakarta100bars →
Tartine is a moderately priced eatery focusing on tartine, a french word for a slice of bread topped with anything eatable (just like a sandwich without a second piece of bread to close it). It is not haute cuisine but it is good enough and creative. Tartine is also very pleasant in its design: Elegant, yet simple and homey. For the price you pay, it is worth it not so much for the food, but rather for the atmosphere, very cozy. Opening Hours: From Sunday to Thursday: 9am to 12am Friday and Saturday: 9am to 2am Live Music from Wednesday to Saturday. Happy Hours: From 4pm to 6pm = 50% discount. Bloeming Bar and Restaurant (FX Plaza)

By Jakarta100bars →
Bloeming could be a nice bar if it was located in Scotland, or at least in Blok M or Jaksa. But to have it here in a mall makes me feel this is just another marketing concept. The design is original though, it looks like the interior of a pirate ship, with some beautiful wooden tables and furniture. The main reason to go to Bloeming is for drinking beer. They have 32 kinds of beer from all over the world, many that you cannot find elsewhere in Jakarta. They also have flavoured beers, which are usually a way to have girls coming too. For around Rp.200,000, you have an all you can drink promo lasting three hours.

Al Nafoura Lebanese Restaurant

By Jakarta100bars →
Al Nafoura is the Lebanese restaurant of the hotel Le Meridien. It is a great place to eat, especially for dinner, when the dim-lighting creates an intimate atmosphere, perfect for a romantic date. The food is not as good as in Anatolia , the most famous Middle-eastern restaurant in Jakarta, but the standards remain high for the city. Surprisingly, it isn't too expensive as well. You can manage to eat well for less than Rp200,000 per person, which is quite rare for a 5-star hotel restaurant.
