Monty's Restaurant and Whisky Bar (Senopati)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Monty's is one of the hippest and most exclusive venues in Jakarta at the moment. The day I visited, you had 1 Ferrari, 1 Lamborghini, 2 Porsches, 2 Jaguars and several nice sports cars parked just in front. That should give you an idea of the crowd. It was opened by Klabo , the same group behind Nip & Dram and Ivy Kitchen. From what I've heard, the owner of Blue Bird Taxis is one of the shareholders.  The Restaurant On the first two floors is a restaurant serving classic European food. They have all the priciest ingredients that you can possibly import in Indonesia such as caviar, lobster, truffle, charcuterie, cheese or wagyu beef. There also serve several organic and healthy dishes. The kitchen is headed by a Norwegian expat who previously worked in Grand Hyatt as an executive sous-chef. The price is rather expensive: On average for a 2-course meal you'll spend at least Rp500,000 (without alcohol). You can try it for lunch as they have a

Proof (Senayan Golf Course - Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Proof is a high-end lounge located in the main building of the Senayan Golf Club, about 200m after Senayan City and on the opposite side of Plaza Senayan. I visited on a Friday night and it was full with a wealthy crowd. I recognized several socialites and at least one heir from one of Indonesia's richest families. There was also a Rolls Royce and a Lamborghini parked outside if you need a better idea of who goes there. People were almost all between 30-50 except for  a few very hot-looking girls in their early 20s.

Motion Blue (Jazz - Fine Dining Lounge)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Motion Blue is a fine dining restaurant/lounge located in Fairmont Hotel in Jakarta. It was named Cotton Club for a couple months, then changed its name. You can read my review of Cotton Club here . The concept of Motion Blue is very similar. It is an upmarket venue with live jazz bands or musicians every day. It is even more expensive than Black Cat . The food is nice, with mostly French fusion dishes.

Cotton Club Jakarta (Jazz and Fine Dining)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Update October 2015: Cotton Club has been replaced with Motion Blue . The Cotton Club Jakarta is a new jazz club and fine dining restaurant located in the  Fairmont Hotel  in Senayan. It is managed by the same group behind the Blue Note and the Cotton Club in Tokyo, both among the best venues in the city to listen to jazz, soul, or latin music live bands. I don't think they can offer the exact same experience as it will be much harder to attract the best international jazz performers in Jakarta. Still, it has the potential of becoming a nightlife hotspot for an older type of clientele. It will compete with nearby Black Cat in Senayan Arcadia, but also with a bunch of new upmarket lounges that have opened recently like Artoz , Hemingway or Nip And Dram .

Artoz Whisky and Cognac Bar (Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Artoz is a whisky bar/lounge located in the Energy Building in SCBD. It replaced Marley's Bar which closed down a while ago. It claims to be the largest collection of Whisky and Cognac in Jakarta, but I am not sure it is true as I believe there is quite an extensive spirit menu in Nip & Dram as well. I visited Artoz during Ramadan, probably not the best time to do so and unsurprisingly it was empty. Artoz is similar with Nip and Dram actually, both in terms of concept, size and setting: You have comfortable leather sofas and chairs spread across a windowless room, with a bar on on side and a live music stage on the other one. The main difference I saw is that Artoz is not as dark and it seems they don't have those crazy minimum spend amounts. The prices are pretty steep still, about USD15 for a standard cocktail. You are also given the menu of the French Restaurant  Amuz , which belong to the same person (Chef Gilles Marx, also behind Auroz).

L'Avenue Restaurant (The Hermitage Hotel)

By Nyoman →
L'Avenue is the main restaurant of The Hermitage Hotel , a new 5-Star Boutique hotel in Menteng, located steps away from the antique market of Jalan Surabaya. The hotel was built in a historical colonial building, and they tried to reflect this heritage in the design of the restaurant. It is classic, full of marble from the floor to the buffet tables. The feeling of exclusivity is reinforced by the small size of the place, only 60 pax at most. At the time of opening, the Executive Chef of L'Avenue,  Chef Guillermo Varela Mata,  was Spanish (with origins from South America). He created a menu with a strong French influence. I had the Chicken Breast with Gratin Dauphinois (potatoes with cream and cheese). It is a dish from Southern France that I've eaten a hundred times in my life. The one in L'Avenue was not as good as the one my Grandmother makes, but still very tasty! The portions were too small for my appetite though. There is also a buffet where y

Bengawan Restaurant @ Keraton at the Plaza Hotel

By Nyoman →
If you are a Mexican food lover, you can read my review of my favorite Spanish and Mexican places in Jakarta. Keraton at the Plaza in Jakarta might be one of the most luxurious and elegant hotels in the city, along with The Hermitage , The Kempinski, The Mandarin Oriental or The Ritz-Carlton.  They have a buffet with fine cheeses, fresh oysters, and a wide variety of meat. But I came here to taste their "Modern Mexican kitchen". It is a special Mexican menu designed by a friendly Mexican chef (see picture above), struggling everyday to get Mexican products in his kitchen in Jakarta.

Hide Yamamoto (Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Hide Yamamoto is a Japanese restaurant located in Lotte Shopping Mall in Ciputra World. It is headed by the famous Chef Hide Yamamoto who had a prestigious career as an Executive Chef for Mandarin Oriental and Ritz-Carlton. He then started to open various restaurants around the world, notably in Singapore's Marina Bay Sands. Hide Yamamoto is probably one of the best new Japanese restaurants in Jakarta at the moment. It is similar with Tatemukai in Grand Indonesia. It is fine dining, modern Japanese cuisine at relatively expensive prices. I recommend you to try it if you are already familiar with Japanese cuisine. They also have robatayaki, a private sushi room for 8 persons and 2 private Teppanyaki rooms (8 and 10 pax).

Nip and Dram (Whisky Bar)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Nip and Dram is a Whisky and Fine Spirit bar located in Landmark Center near Jalan Sudirman. In Jakarta, it is as close as it gets from a true Gentlemen's Club. While it is not member's only, it is clearly targeting a male, upper-class crowd. Women are allowed of course, but the feel of the bar is very masculine. The team behind it is a group of 10 people, Indonesians and Expats, among which (from what the waiter told me) the owner of Blue Bird, the previous GM of Keraton at the Plaza (Klaus Woizik) or the previous GM of Buddha Bar Jakarta (Bogdan Vlase). The prices are among the highest of any other bars in Jakarta. Cocktails start at 165,000rp++ and the (extensive) list of alcohols includes bottles costing up to 50 million rupiah per unit. They also sell cigars.

La Luce Italian Restaurant

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
La Luce is one of the most upmarket Italian restaurants in Jakarta. It was also voted the best Italian restaurant in Jakarta for 2014 by Now Magazine. It is located in the SCBD area, not too far from Pacific Place. It is currently headed by Chef Alessandro de Boni, formerly working in Il Mare Italian Restaurant in Mulia Hotel. I tried La Luce about a year ago but it is only now that I'm writing the review. I was reminded about my visit there when I met yesterday with its previous manager, Gianni, who now works in Balboni . La Luce does not have a very complicated design. It is rather simple, with an emphasis on the service and the food. Be warned: It is very expensive for Italian food, probably about the same than in Gaia (Altitude) . The restaurant will appeal to those looking for a fine dining experience, with all the formality and the extra attention. Personally, I don't need to have someone coming to my table to fill again my glass every time I have a sip

Huize van Wely (The Papilion building, Kemang)

By Nyoman →
Huize van Wely is a Dutch Restaurant, Patissier and Chocolatier located in Kemang. This upscale restaurant is located in the Papilion building, the famous glass building on Kemang Raya. This type of architecture is quite uncommon in Jakarta, that is why I wanted to try this restaurant. On the top floor of this building you will find Shy Rooftop & restaurant ( you can check my review here ). Outstanding glass building, fancy Dutch restaurant, European-style cuisine...this place is very fancy ! This is not a regular place to hang out with your buddies...It would more suitable to make a proposal or to have a serious conversation. In this very chic decor, I tried to order some food and I was not disappointed. First they give you a small piece of French bread along with salted butter, which is a very sweet attention. Then I did not wait too long to taste my spicy quesadillas and that was very good. But the best part in my opinion in the dessert and chocolate area.

Altitude (Gaia, Salt Grill, Enmaru) @ The Plaza

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Altitude is a group of 3 restaurants located on the 46th floor of the Plaza tower, one of the most expensive office buildings in Jakarta (also home the the Keraton hotel). 46th floor, yes: Great view of course, but make sure to book in advance and ask for a table near the window (if possible in the angle of the building). Luckily for my wallet, I only tried one of the three restaurants, Gaia, the Italian. The food was good, but not spectacular for the price: 550k for one appetizer and one main course. The quality of the service and the attention that we got, not only from the waiters but also from the managers, including 3 foreigners, may have been what we are really paying in the restaurant. One thing felt very wrong: The music was clubbing style and they only had one CD. So we had Gangnam Style and Party Rock Anthem twice each in one evening. That's twice too much. In Altitude, there is also an Australian Steak House (Salt Grill) and a Japanese (Enmaru) that I haven

SKYE Bar & Restaurant (Menara BCA)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
SKYE is the latest venue opened by the Ismaya Group, and for this reason, we can guess it will be the place to be in Jakarta for at least the next 3 months.  The Menara BCA has 57th floor and is 230 meters high. Located on its 56th floor, SKYE's main attraction will obviously be the view over the city's skyline. The history of rooftop bars and restaurants in Jakarta has shown mixed results, with most places now closed ( Vertigo , Kampus , Pure , Cilantro , etc...). I wish more success for SKYE.
