Gonzo's Tex Mex Restaurant (Jakarta)

By Jakarta100bars →
Gonzo's is a brand-new restaurant serving Mexican, Texan and Tex-Mex specialties. Its first location is in Lotte Mall Kuningan, slightly hidden behind Ranch Market. It doubles up as the first Margarita bar in Jakarta. The theme is Mexican but I don't think it was the objective of the owners to recreate Mexico in Jakarta. It is colorful and friendly, yet simple. Gonzo's caters to a mall crowd who needs a fun place for meeting/hanging out. They serve mostly popular dishes like Burritos, Fajitas, Steaks, Tacos, Quesadillas, etc, not fine dining Mexican food (see Full Menu ).

Taco Local (Panglima Polim)

By Nyoman →
Taco Local is a tiny Mexican joint located in Senopati. They just reopened after being closed for a few months for renovation: Actually they used to be even smaller than that... They extended the restaurant to the bicycle shop just next to them (that is why you will find some old bikes hanging from the ceiling). In a nutshell, the food is cheap, delicious, worth every penny and the staff is friendly. What more can you expect ? In Taco Local, until recently, you had to get your food yourself at the counter because they did not have any staff for the service. Then the place became more and more popular and just now they are turning into a more proper restaurant. For what I ordered on the picture, I paid less than 100 000 Rp with a beverage!

Bengawan Restaurant @ Keraton at the Plaza Hotel

By Nyoman →
If you are a Mexican food lover, you can read my review of my favorite Spanish and Mexican places in Jakarta. Keraton at the Plaza in Jakarta might be one of the most luxurious and elegant hotels in the city, along with The Hermitage , The Kempinski, The Mandarin Oriental or The Ritz-Carlton.  They have a buffet with fine cheeses, fresh oysters, and a wide variety of meat. But I came here to taste their "Modern Mexican kitchen". It is a special Mexican menu designed by a friendly Mexican chef (see picture above), struggling everyday to get Mexican products in his kitchen in Jakarta.

The Best Spanish & Mexican Restaurants in Jakarta

By Jakarta100bars →
In just a few years, the number of Mexican/Spanish/Latin restaurants in Jakarta has exploded. 5 years ago, to my knowledge there was only Amigos, and now I counted over 10 of them. I know it doesn't really make sense to mix Mexican and Spanish food into one single review as they are not related at all but I think they are part of a similar trend.  Jakartans are craving for convivial ways to eat: Restaurants that are modern without being uptight and where the food can be shared with friends. Latin countries also have a positive image in the mind of many. Tell them Spain, and they think Party, Sexy, Friendly or Fun (and probably Soccer). Most of those new Spanish/Mexican restaurants are located in the expatriate areas of Jakarta: Kemang, Cipete, Sudirman/Thamrin. Only Caliente (Mexican) has a branch in Pantai Indah Kapuk and Tapas Movida has one in Cilandak (CITOS). I ranked the restaurants according to several criteria: Food, authenticity, value for money, atmosphere, co

Mojo Bar + Kitchen (Jakarta)

By Jakarta100bars →
It is only recently that I discovered Mojo Kitchen & Bar. It is small and unpretentious, similar with Treehouse in Kemang. It has a great location at the intersection of Jalan Senopati and Jalan Kertanegara, one of the most expensive residential areas in Jakarta. They have great music, a cozy atmosphere, and a menu featuring Korean, Californian and Mexican dishes. I didn't try any of their food though, only a cocktail. Please comment if you have been there. Overall : Recommended for a drink after work. Mojo Bar & Kitchen Jakarta Jalan Kertanegara No. 70, Senopati South Jakarta, Indonesia

Sombrero Mexican Restaurant Jakarta

By Jakarta100bars →
Sombrero is an affordable Mexican restaurant located in the third floor of Grand Indonesia. It belongs to Michelindo, the same group who imported the BonChon Chicken franchise from Korea to Indonesia. I had the Mexican Tapas Sample for 45,000rp++, which included a taco, a burrito and a quesadilla. Naturally, the portions were tiny, but it was good and I found it fair value for money. The service was also friendly. Regarding the place in itself, they really kept the design to a minimum. There are a few paintings on the wall with latin dancers, a small cactus on every table, and tiny Mexican flags.

Caliente Mexican Restaurant Jakarta

By Unknown →
Caliente is an affordable Mexican restaurant located in Kemang Village (Lippo Mall). It serves all Mexican favourites for a very reasonable price and the taste is good. The design of the place could be improved in my opinion as it resembles a fast food more than a restaurant. Caliente Mexican Restaurant Jakarta Lippo Mall Kemang, 3rd Floor #03, Jl. Pangeran Antasari Kav. 36, Kemang, Jakarta Opening Hours:  Caliente is opened every day from 10am to 10pm.

Amigos Restaurant (Tex-Mex)

By The Jakarta Team →
Established in Indonesia since 1979, Amigos is a popular family restaurant , the first with Mexican food in Jakarta (now there is also Hacienda ). It has two main targets, American expats who miss their tacos, and Indonesian middle class families eager to discover another continent's cuisine. Actually, we are seeing a lot more of these lately as expats are being spoiled with much better places to eat... The food is junk food, but the atmosphere is friendly. If you want to eat quietly, don't go in the evening because they have live music which can be quite loud. Happy hour from 4pm to 7pm (50% off soft drinks, juices and beer).  There are two branches: Amigos Kemang (It is the one with the best reputation) Jl. Kemang Selatan I
