Malo's Restaurant (Bali)

By Jakarta100bars
Malo's Restaurant, Bar and Pizzeria is located on Jalan Nakula, not too far from the new hotel TS Suites in Legian. It is owned by a Swiss national who has been living in Bali for over 20 years.

The restaurant is quite popular with German expats, particularly those in their 50s/60s. They are attracted by the large choice of German and Swiss dishes, and by the cheap price of alcohol. A cocktail will only cost you a little above Rp50,000 in Malo's! I live not far from Malo's and I see it full almost every night.

The menu is quite long and cheap, featuring all typical popular dishes (pastas, pizza, sausages, beef, pork) with a large selection of meats (see sample menu below). The price for a meal is normally under Rp100,000 (a little more if you take beef).

A nice feature of the restaurant is that you get a free frozen Margarita shot as a welcome drink.

I tried the Ricotta & Spinach Raviolis (Rp48,000) and the Beef Filet Chef's Special (Rp128,000+Sauce Rp10,000). The meat was good-quality local beef, prepared in a rather simple way. It is good value-for-money, but nothing to shout about.

Regarding the Raviolis, they were very oily as you can see on the picture. I didn't really like it but it might better suit the taste buds of fellow Swiss-Germans.
Oily Raviolis
Overall: Simple, affordable food. Friendly service. Nothing too special though. There are many similar restaurants in the area.
