Jakarta nightlife still surprises me... The latest unexpected find was Siera which I had heard of before but never had the chance to visit... People also call it Pujasera, but I was unable to understand which name was the proper one...
Siera is located on Jalan Mangga Besar, about 1 kilometer East of Jalan Hayam Wuruk. It is not too difficult to find but you should be attentive not to miss it. It looks like a Roman temple, with colorful lighting.
You have to pay about Rp20,000 to get in, and for this price, you will get a small bottle of water. Inside is really crowded, until morning. The club is like a long corridor, maybe 100 meters deep, with at least 500 people, maybe 1000. If you were on the dancefloor at the end of the corridor and suddenly there was a fire, you'll have no chance to escape. It is very likely that 90% of the customers have taken drugs, and I would imagine that many girls in this place are working. As the price and facilities are quite cheap, it attracts a crowd of middle-class Indonesian, with few Chinese.
The music is very aggressive and loud, and personally, I couldn't stand to stay more than 10 minutes in the club. I took a few pictures, which are unfortunately quite dark, but I have a video that captures well its essence.

ReplyDeleteWorth a visit if you like your nightclubs dark and dank. I didn't go solo, but i was not with any other bule and didn't quite feel comfortable in here, but i suspect that was more to do with the music (I thought my brain was going to explode from the funky kota after 1 hour).
ReplyDeletegrab a buddy and go check it out. Unknown what time they close, but, they do have the tastiest biscuits I managed to find in the whole weekend.

But I (bule) loved it.
people are really, really friendly (of course) and the music was great (i like that jakarta funky dugem house, or whatever it is called).
when we left at 8 the party was still going.
20k to enter, no water included anymore.
One small (not even half a liter; i think illigals has/had the same size) bottle of water is 30k! a bit expensive, but compensates the cheap entrance fee...
it is indeed VERY dark inside. on the dancefloor they have some lights though, so there it is not that dark. people are still wearing sunglasses! :D
and VERY VERY Loud! I always carry earplugs with me, otherwise I would have left immediately after entering, because it is really insanely loud. i don't get how people can stay inside without earplugs! crazy...
does anyone know if it is true that the police owns that place? someone told me...
How is this place now? still hot girls to have fun with? or to get out?
ReplyDeleteI went there recently... You cannot actually see the girls as it is too dark... Most are not that pretty and I would not feel very safe in terms of STDs/HIV.
ReplyDeleteLet's wrap this one up! Siera is a top place, good bickies at a good price $35! U can turn up at 11 pm take a pill, then move on to Mille's! Security and staff are first rate. You will find the odd Bule like me, no working girls, just a few drink scabs who have boyfriends there! Majority are groups of couples who like pill and chill, which is hard to do with the music! Open to 9am, word of advice enter and leave through the side street that takes you to Mille's, avoid all taxis and walk up the street a bit further and leave during daylight, no problems with police then! 30k entry with no water! Overall a great place to get on it!

You can enter either from Mangga Besar or from a street on the side, i think it's jalan mangga besar 12... im not sure it's open all the time though...

ReplyDeleteWent 6 times over the Xmas holidays, still 30K entry no drink, tasty bikkies 40K, service staff and security still first rate, seems busier since Mille's has closed, a few more chickens hanging around, only spotted one other bule, goes off on a Monday night!..Still a great way to start and finish the night off... ;)

ReplyDeletePuja Sera is still open although I visited twice in July & August this year and both times no Apotik (drug store) was operating inside. Not sure if I was just unlucky or maybe they are being more cautious now. Both security and waiters could not point us in the right direction.
ReplyDeleteLate Sept 2018 Fri night -- very much open and outgoing for usual business. Very friendly crowd, but too crowded. Pitch dark, cigarettes being smoked everywhere. Music not too crazy. Worth the trip out.

ReplyDeleteI've been staying in Mangga Besar for the last week 27/11/20, checkout on 29/11/20. Siera has moved around the corner. 40k to get in, no water, still has biscuits, but the price is pretty high now.
