Opened in September 2011, Negev is a restaurant/bar located on Jalan Gatot Subroto, near Blowfish. I won't be in Jakarta until next week and I didn't have time to visit it yet, but since the team behind it is already experienced, in particular in 5-star hotels around the world, I bet it will become a trendy spot. I thought it could be useful to write about it first for those of you who long for new exciting venues in Jakarta.

Hopefully I'll go there in the coming week and post a review, don't hesitate to comment until then.

  1. The restaurant is not officially opened... I think you should wait at least for a month, until end of November, to make sure they get everything straight..

  3. great food, but quite pricey.
the seafood risotto and alaskan crab were the highlights of the meal.
the sushi platters were not bad either.
dont go too late for dinner as the music gets really loud after 11pm, becomes more like a nightclub then.

  4. from my experience being there, Negev has been the best destination place for hangout now and it is in my 1st recommendation list to all my friends. food and drinks are awesome, not forgetting the desserts too, especially for women, very guilty pleasure but yet you just dun wanna share it with others.just to have it for yourself. it doesn't look like a club at all, but more of lounge type. the last event they had, 11th hour was amazing, can't wait for the next one to come ^^

  5. The place looks absolutely fantastic . The interior has been done up much better than the other new designer restaurants in Jakarta.
Unfortunately thats the only good thing. The menu is huge and as a result there is nothing special on it. They have not tried to make anything unique - for example if you want the linguine bolognaise then that is exactly what you will get and it tastes the same as you will find in hundreds of cafes around the city. This is a shame as they have obviously tried to establish a top restaurant but i believe they spent all their budget on design and are ignoring the food. I cant blame the chefs as can you imagine trying to work in a kitchen of a restaurant with such a huge menu. Thereis no way they can spend time to prepare dishes properly. Overall the menu and food quality is that of a 3 to 4 star hotel coffee shop.
They say they have a 'mixologist' but i find this hard to believe. I aksed the waiter what glasses various cocktails were served in and almost all of them come in martini glasses including margeritas and daiqaries. This is kind of an acid test for me and they failed miserably. If the restaurant cant serve the correct glass for the correct cocktail then there is no way they will be making it properly. I settled in the end on an 'exotica' which was averaged taste but also served with a very small straw that plugged up straight away making it impossible to drink. Talk about amateur hour.
Overall the only special thing about Negev is the decoration which is very good. As to the rest - it has been put together very poorly and you would get better food in one of the chain cafes. Not impressed at all

  6. I ve been to Negev several (3) times with my gang food was great and the drinks were perfect and its not a night club but a full restaurant. I think there doing a great job compared to other up market places.. No one can disagree the the place looks awesome. love the paintings on the ceiling specially after few shots. For me its something new in Jakarta. May be the music gets loud late night but perfectly ok for my mood switch. Service is not bad too. Definitely a go back place, so much variety to choose and try out. See you soon

  7. Hey Guyz, I went to Negev after several months on a Saturday night. Place was almost full. Man i was amazed to see the new B&W pictures and the bronze artifacts. This place is truly an art joint with good food and very good drinks. I think the owners spend more than a bit on these expensive stuff but i also have a doubt whether Jakarta's dinners are ready to for these type of experiences over food and wine. May be I am wrong.

  8. Negev serves nice steak and best dessert in town! Yet, waiter should learn how to pour wine appropriately.
