Abuba Steak sounded to me like Abuja Steak, the capital of Nigeria, so I had a strong feeling against this restaurant before visiting it... Fortunately, it was a great surprise and a place I recommend to everyone, excluding vegetarians.
The outside doesn't look so great and would need some painting. The inside is similar to that of a warung, basic but clean, with some posters of meat ads. You have about 30 tables, and 1/4th of them were taken when I visited. Many people seemed to complain on internet about the smoke of cigarettes, but in the Abuba I visited, in Wahid Hasyim, no smoke at all since there is a private/closed room for smoking. There is also a small musholla for praying in the back... My only concern was that the AC was not functioning very well, so it was a bit hot for eating.
The menu is quite simple: You have four types of meat, depending on the quality: Local, NZ beef, Australian Beef, Wagyu beef. Then you choose which piece of meat you want: Sirloin, Tenderloin, Rib Eye, Lamb Chop, T-Bone, and how you would like it cooked. About 10 minutes later, your meat is ready with some vegetables and french fries (the french fries were not very well cooked).

I tooked the Tenderloin NZ, for Rp 68,000. With the barbeque sauce, it tasted just perfect, and far better than the meat I had for the same prices in some of Jakarta's malls. Do not go for local meat, you will see that it is still far from tasting good. I cannot say Abuba is cheap though, since I paid in Bandung Rp 20,000 less for the same steak (in the Suis Butcher). I believe other places in Jakarta offer similar value for money, starting with nearby Ali Baba Steakhouse.

Yummmmy... Abuba has the best steak in Indonesia... Who cares about how the place looks like when it is as good as in this place.
ReplyDeleteABUBA Steak is a joke The place sucks. The AC is always off because the local employees want it that way, they don't care about the customers. The Steaks no matter which you choose are poor in taste and the sauce has no flavor. It is not polite when you eat and people stand around and stare at you. Oh and who decorated this place A mass murderer, no one wants to see parts of a cows or cares where the meat comes from in a pictured diagram. This restaurant is typical for Indonesia. Many probably believe it is good because they have never tasted a real Steak from US, NZ or Australia because if they had they would not eat this shit. Sorry if I am frank but had a bad experience there....super super impolite service felt like being served by the mafia, and then got sick from the food the next day. Avoid this place at all costs.
ReplyDeleteHave you got a qualified chef or what?
ReplyDeleteI went to the Kelapa Gading one this afternoon 15/01/2012 and ordered lamb chops. The chops were fatty and they were cut very thinly, the vegetables were not fit for human consumption and to top it all off it was served with tomato sauce!
If you need to know how to cook lamb chops properly let me know as I can certainly cook lamb chops better that what I got dished out at your restaurant, it was just an embarrassment.
Last time i was there NZ steak wasn't so nice as my first experience it was a huge different, so i"m considering not to come there anymore .......
ReplyDeleteeverytime I went there. it was not different... ABUBA HAS A GOOD TASTE. i dont care of where the chef comes from and also about the place.... I really care about my appetite. I don't like beef but abuba has been change my appetite. I love Rib Eye, Salmon, and many more.
ReplyDeletesometimes maybe Abuba could did the bad things. like about the beef condition, vegetable condition, potato condition, place condition and service condition... but it's ok from me. because there are a HUMAN. not AN ANGLE or GOD whos always doing everything perfectly....
hehe :D
I love it too............
ReplyDeleteINDONESIAN STEAK.
Good taste. 4 thumbs up for the owner who has a good appetite
Farrrk, before submitting any comments, please learn some proper english. At least, learn the vocabulary. Abuba is straight up a steak house. Simple, yet satisfying. It is not morton nor del monico's, but for 7 dollars steak, you cant complain. If you are looking for the best steak, try ruth chris and spend 70 dollars. If u want it cheap, eat ur 6 dollars steak and shut the hell up. Cheers.
