Jun Njan (meaning "Always remember your roots") is a chain of traditional Chinese seafood restaurants with branches all over Jakarta. The one I tried is located in Grand Indonesia, and I don't know if the quality of the food in this restaurant is the same than that in other places.

The menu list is extensive with a mix of various chinese dishes, with a focus on seafood. I thought the cost of the food was fair, given that the restaurant is located in one of Jakarta's most luxurious malls. Jun Njan was not very crowded when I was there, but it is rare: It is usually very busy and sometimes noisy. Not a good set for a quiet or romantic dinner...

  1. One of my favorite restaurant in Jakarta. I like the salted egg softshell crab, and jun njan fried noodle. My signature order all d time

  2. Dishes I like include frog's legs and butter-sauce fried king prawns. I've been going to Jun Njan since I was a kid because it was my uncle's favourite joint and he would take us there on special occasions. After a long stint overseas, I came back to the original restaurant in Batu Ceper, where the quality is consistent, and it is better than the one in GI.

Really good service, too. The service is a close second to Paramount (a veteran restaurant with retro 70s upmarket Chinese restaurant decor in Menteng) where complimentary dessert is served and your change will be given in new notes - nice touch!
