Social House is a restaurant and bar with a nice view of Plaza Indonesia's roundabout. The atmosphere is supposed to be the feel-like-home type, but it is actually one of the hippest venues in Jakarta, so you don't feel that comfortable. Many celebrities and models come here, literally dozens of them on any weekend night.
I tasted the pizza there and it was not worth what I paid for it: It was very small and not well-cooked. Drinks are very expensive as well.

Social House is sometimes just called SoHo and it's part of the group Ismaya, behind Blowfish and Dragonfly.
For information about the events in Social House, I recommend you to check its facebook fan page SoHo Jakarta.

ReplyDeleteyour scathing review of the food comes from tasting one dish of pizza from a menu of almost 50 dishes.
ReplyDeleteamazing.
its not even their signature dish, at the very least try the signature dish and then base your review on that.
this blog is a joke.
Hi Tomy W, I'm the writer of the review of Social House for the blog Jakarta 100 Bars.
ReplyDeleteI had a very expensive pizza and it was not very good. I don't know about the other dishes and I'm not saying anything about that.
If I ever go back to Social House and eat something better, I'll update the review.
I'd like to echo that complaint about the food. I ordered an expensive dish supposedly involving zucchini and it came with disgusting half-boiled *cucumber* slices instead. I complained, and a waiter came and told me "they're the same thing". Needless to say I never went back. I take the point that it's not a comprehensive review though, so don't take my word for it, read what an actual reviewer who went there several times has to say at: http://jakartarestaurantreviews.wordpress.com/category/social-house/
ReplyDeletevery nice indeed...worth for a visit...nice place nice food...great atmosphere in the heart of the city
ReplyDeleteI have to concur with the reviewer.
ReplyDeleteEven with a second chance, trying the food again I found it to be exceptionally poor.
I won't be going back.
I am surprised. I know Social House as a pleasant - and popular - place with a good range of excellent food. Some of the dishes are of superior quality.
ReplyDeleteI am tempted to conclude that this entertaining blogger (bravo!) is better at judging the faithfulness, or not, of women he engages with than the quality of the food he eats.
ReplyDeleteWe were actually served off meat at Social Houe and my daughter ended up with a dodgy stomach for 3 days. Despite meeting the head chef and the advisor to the Restaurant chain, we were unable to get the cost of our meal refunded. This restaurant has a lot to learn about customer serve and quality of food and service. 3rd rate with pretensions of being of international quality. better and cleaner food available on the street.
ReplyDeleteSoHo have a very nice ambiance to be one of the place to go for a couple. however based on 4 dishes my group had: Steak, pasta, Fish and Chip, and the other one that I forgot (it was 6 months ago so forgive my memory). The food platting was awesome, unfortunately I couldn't praise to much with the taste, 4 out of 4 food tasted very bland even for American Palette. If you prefer to just have a nice place to have a tasteless and overpriced dinner, then SoHo is the place.
ReplyDeleteCould you gimme information where is the location of Soho ? Thanks
ReplyDeleteooppss sorry..my PC didnt work well.. Now i know the place..
ReplyDeletesheez i just hit up the very badass waitress ever since here. ended up with Rp 300 bills, with the menu i ever asked! -3 out of 5
ReplyDeletewith the menu i NEVER asked, sorry. and the Rp 300k bills is for 1...
ReplyDeleteThis place is only to meet up and drink a wine but not to have a full set of dinner, perhaps it should be fine for lunch only with friend or colleague with the good atmosphere. To my experience this place has a good memory when I went to Jakarta which cannot be forgotten in my life.
ReplyDeletei have to agree w/ the reviewer.. drinks are ok, but the food is a joke.. order their special dish about beef something, turn out very small portion (large for a cat i think, not for human being) n the taste is average.. nice place to hang out, but that's about it..
ReplyDeletethat place friggin' blows goats
ReplyDeleteany feedback about the music?
ReplyDeleteGood ambiance at night.. Many expats and well dressed locals.. Bout music, so sorry im lack of ,usic knowledge so i dont know how to classify that.. Semi-clubbing music? :D.. I also went there for lunch, ordered chicken breast + mushroom + (i dunnot what kinda sauce) and it tasted good... Good service.. It was worth the price
ReplyDeleteThe music is some covers. anyone have any idea who is singing those cover songs? Love those music.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that the tuna tartar is very spicey and only appropriate for those who can handle vindaloo style heat and above. It was good, however should be renamed flaming hot or something. The lady on our next table ordered the same and I though she was going to burst into flames.
ReplyDeleteThe pork knuckle and Lasagne were great. The crackling was so crisp and crunchy and everything was well cooked and perfectly seasoned.
The sangria was a little too sweet, but hey, this aint Spain. 9/10 I say....Well worth a visit.
Love this place.. I think the foods and the drinks are ok with reasonable price.
ReplyDeleteThis is my fav. place to hang out wth my friends after office hour. We prefer this place better than loewy, potato head or moovina.
I've been here once and I heard a song from my fav musician, Mayer Hawthorne, but seems not to have specific music. The drinks are good (affordable). The foods? well, not really like it. A bit crowded. If you are going to celebrate ur friends or family's birthday, you can ask the waitresses to sing "happy birthday" song with a guitar (they provide a little cake).
ReplyDeleteGreat coffee, try the pumpkin soup, it is divine. And the juices are amazing. Nice place!!
ReplyDeleteThe food at social house sucks. Is there any other reason to go there?
ReplyDeleteThe main reason to go there is to be seen and see people... clearly not for the food...
DeleteDisgusting restaurant. Visited on a weekday with an expat friend. I ordered a prawn pesto pasta dish, which I have had before. But this time when the dish came my jaw dropped. See picture I added. There were no prawns, only tiny shrimps. Then you see a "spread" of heads including a couple prawn heads. There's clearly 2 different types of shrimp heads in my plate. Prawn heads but no prawns. I couldn't believe it. Did they just take empty USED prawn heads, trash from other customer's finished dish & put it in my dish to "represent prawns"?? The shrimp & heads clearly didn't match. I was grossed out.
ReplyDeleteCalled the manager over immediately. He said "that's normal. It's always been like that." I said I had the dish before so I know he's lying. Moreover, where are the prawns? The manager's denial was just insulting & made me more upset. I took a picture of the dish & asked him if he got this dish will he be happy with what he sees & he finally said "No". This is unbelievable. Social House is a pricy restaurant. We don't expect such "recycling" of customer's food happening in a known restaurant like that but it did. And I am almost sure this can't be the first time. How disgusting. Putting someone's leftover trash into my plate. They run their kitchen like a street food cart in Indonesia.
More disturbing was that the manager said they don't have prawns (hello!!) & recommended a salmon pasta dish. It came & was another disappointment, no surprise. It was small crumbs of fish meat, not even salmon I suspect. What was surprising was when the bill came they charged me the higher price for the dish the manager "recommended". I paid & left. Never going back & I think people need to know how this establishment handles food. No food safety. Transmittable diseases like Hepatitis, virus like flu, probably passed down from one customer to another without us knowing. The more I think about it the more I'm sick to my stomach.
My picture really doesn't do justice to the real obvious & horror of the dish. I am still very disturbed & upset till this day. Can't help to think how much of the "recycling food" from another customer's plate I have ingested in my past visits. The owner of this restaurant also owned SKYE. I suggest the owner take a good look at all kitchens.
