Kabuki Executive Club and Karaoke (Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Kabuki is an executive club and karaoke located in Lokasari, near Jalan Mangga Besar (West Jakarta). It replaces Newton , which was a similar yet less fancy venue. It is part of the Alexis Group, which currently owns 1001, Club 36, Zen Club, Emporium and Colosseum. They lost their flagship property, Alexis, in 2018 after it was shut down by the new governor. You might actually notice that the main lounge in Kabuki looks similar to 4Play, the club that was on the first floor of Alexis. I was not able to take any photos inside Kabuki because the security put a sticker on my phone's camera. They seem to take privacy very seriously, probably to avoid having the same trouble as they had with Alexis. What happens inside is not outrageous, though. The lounge itself is medium sized, with 3 podiums in the middle, and VIP areas on the side. You have sexy dancers, but they are wearing clothes and do not perform stripteases. They can be taken to the rooms upstairs, for IDR2

Old City Nightclub and Karaoke (Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Old City is a nightclub and karaoke located in North Jakarta, about 200 meters from the Fatahillah Museum and 500 meters from Colosseum . I had already visited it in 2009 when it was called Athena  and to be honest it hasn't changed much. It is a hardcore party spot with deafening techno music, a dark vibe and drugs aplenty. It is a bit dodgy, especially the surroundings, and you may bump into a few weird customers, but it is still safe to visit.

The Far Away Nightlife of Tanjung Priok (North Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
In 10 years in Jakarta, I had never been to Tanjung Priok at night. For those who don't know, Tanjung Priok is located in the extreme North of the city and it is home to the city's main harbour. It is not a very recommended area to hangout. Don't bring your girlfriend here on a date. Anyway, we were actually planning to go to Senen from Kelapa Gading, but our taxi driver was tricky and he tried to extend our journey (and fare) with him. My friend looked at his GPS and it was clear that we were completely off-track, going North West instead of going South East. We started to argue and after a little fight with him, he dropped us off at the corner of Jalan Laksamana Yos Sudarso and Jalan Raya Enggano.

Marimba Night Club (Sentral Hotel)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Marimba "Diskotik" is a 100% local night club located in Central Jakarta. Due to the traffic in the area, it could take you more than one hour to reach it from Jalan Sudirman. Marimba is part of Sentral, a 4-star hotel heavily dependent on government officials on seminars and training. Surprisingly, all these people working for the government have not noticed that there is a club popular with recreational drug users and prostitutes in the same building they are sleeping in.

Akasaka and A-Club (Bali)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Akasaka is one of the biggest nightclubs in Denpasar, Bali. It is a Jakarta-style one stop entertainment complex controlled by the Balinese mafia. It is 99% crowded with Indonesians and it is famous for being full of drugs, particularly ecstasy. The security of the place actually offered me some just after I paid for my entrance ticket (Rp60,000). The main club of Akasaka is called the Music Room. It is a dark stage where they have live music, sexy dancers (sometimes nude), and later in the night Funky House DJs. For those who are not used to it, Funky House or Techno Kota is a headbanging music style in which the DJ remixes famous tunes 3 times the normal speed. It is particularly suitable for users of recreative drugs... It is usually packed on weekends until early morning. Many prostitutes go there too. Music Room in Akasaka (yes it is dark...) Inside the same complex, you have a big karaoke with Lady Companions, some of which you can see on their website: LC Akasak

Siera or Pujasera Nightclub (Mangga Besar)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Jakarta nightlife still surprises me... The latest unexpected find was Siera which I had heard of before but never had the chance to visit... People also call it Pujasera, but I was unable to understand which name was the proper one... Siera is located on Jalan Mangga Besar, about 1 kilometer East of Jalan Hayam Wuruk. It is not too difficult to find but you should be attentive not to miss it. It looks like a Roman temple, with a colourful lighting. You have to pay about Rp20,000 to get in, and for this price you will get a small bottle of water. Inside is really crowded, until morning. The club is like a long corridor, maybe a 100 meters deep, with at least 500 people, maybe a 1000. If you were on the dancefloor at the end of the corridor and suddenly there was a fire, you'll have no chance to escape. It is very likely that 90% of the customers have taken drugs, and I would imagine that all girls in this place are working. As the price and facilities are quite cheap,

Stadium (Jalan Hayam Wuruk) CLOSED

By The Jakarta Team →
Update May 2014: The Jakarta City Administration has closed down Stadium following the death by overdose of a policeman who partied there. Best disco in Jakarta for me, Stadium can be extremely crowded on week-ends and for special events . It has four flours, each supposedly with different themes but tribal techno/progressive is dominant. Stadium is big enough to get you lost and so dark you could not recognize your mom if she was dancing 1 meter away from you.

Exotis Diskotik Jakarta/ Dugem (Mangga Besar Raya)

By The Jakarta Team →
Dark, dirty place, with Techno Kota, plenty of drugs and lots of prostitutes. Open non-stop during the weekend. The staff and the other customers are generally friendly and happy to dance with foreigners. I give the rating 1/10 but if you are adventurous, you should visit it at least once.
