McGettigan's Irish Pub and Sports Bar (Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
McGettigan's is a brand-new Irish pub and sports bar that had its grand opening on May 16th, 2017. Located in Mega Kuningan, in the basement of Menara BTPN, it is part of a larger group with 17 locations around the world (including Dubai, Singapore, New York, and of course Ireland - see more here: McGettigan's ). I had a chance to visit it a few weeks before their official opening on a Saturday night and what I saw looked promising. McGettigan's is easy to find, just across the road from the Ritz-Carlton, and walking distance from famous bars like Loewy or Basque. It is in a business district so it gets particularly busy for lunch and after office hours. It is built on one spacious floor, with several distinct spaces for customers to sit down: On the left corner, a quiet dining area with private booths and tables. In the back, a long and elegant bar that serves 9 kinds of draught beer. In the center, several high tables and chairs for more casual me

Masters Sports Bar (Bellagio - Mega Kuningan)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Masters Sports Bar and Restaurant is located on the ground floor of Bellagio Mall in Mega Kuningan. The place looks unassuming from the outside and you may have already walked past without noticing it. Should you decide to step inside, you'll be surprised to find a spacious 350m2 area with a long wooden bar, a 50-seat dining area, 2 professional electronic dart boards and 5 full-size tournament pool tables. Unlike the trendy venues nearby like Loewy or Basque, Masters has a much more laid-back atmosphere, perfect if you are looking for a quiet place to chill after work. Later in the evening, it gets a bit more loud and busy, especially on Friday and Saturday as they have a live band. It is one of the few dedicated sports bars in Jakarta and it features at least 8 different TVs, including two massive HD projector screens near the entrance. It must be among the largest ones I've seen anywhere in Asia. If there is any live sports event in the world, you are prett

9 Best Bars in Mega Kuningan (Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Home to 5-star hotels ( Ritz-Carlton ,  Raffles ,  Marriott ), foreign embassies, luxury apartments and prestigious offices, Mega Kuningan is easily one of the most exclusive  areas in Jakarta . As it was recently built from scratch, it is very different from the rest of the city. There are no warungs, no street sellers, no poverty and barely any traffic jams. Instead, you will see large streets lined with palm trees and a dozen of skyscrapers (with a few more still under construction). Though Mega Kuningan does not have a proper nightclub yet (apart from the gay club Apollo ), it has a vibrant nightlife almost any day of the week. You can walk in any towers and you are almost guaranteed to find a restaurant, a lounge or a bar. While each of them is unique, they generally target the same clientele: Expats, upper class Indonesians and businessmen. The following article will give you a quick overview of my 8 favorite bars in Mega Kuningan. They aren't far from each ot

Revolution Vodka Party Bar (Lotte Mall, Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Revolution Vodka Party Bar was developed by some of the people who launched  Red Square  in Senayan Arcadia a few years ago. It is located in Lotte Avenue Mall, next to their sister Mexican restaurant  Gonzo's Tex Mex Grill . For those who don't remember, Red Square was one of Jakarta's best bars/nightclubs for expats. It was wild, packed with hot girls with usually good DJs playing a mix of commercial and underground music. I personally had a lot of fun there and I was sad when it closed.

Basque Spanish Restaurant and Tapas Bar (Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Basque is one of the most happening new restaurants/bars to open so far this year in Jakarta. It is a Spanish restaurant / Tapas bar with a great design, good food and a trendy feel. Currently, I see that more and more expats are hanging out there instead of Loewy. It is a good pick-up place for girls also. The location on the 8th floor of Noble House offers a nice view on the surrounding buildings of Mega Kuningan. The food is not so expensive, you can get a decent meal for less than Rp200,000.  It is open every day for lunch and dinner. After 11pm, they generally turn up the volume and it turns into a bar. The music is a mix of popular songs from the past 20 years. Sesto Senso by Hide Yamamoto (Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Sesto Senso is an Italian restaurant owned by a Japanese Chef, Hide Yamamoto . Located in Lotte Mall Kuningan, it is similar in concept with other recently opened venues such as AW Kitchen and Popolamama . All of these are managed by Japanese but sell mostly Italian dishes. The design of Sesto Senso is modern minimalist, which made me feel like it was soulless, a bit as if I was sitting in the waiting room of a brand-new hospital. It is a good thing the waiters were warm and friendly to compensate for that feeling. I also enjoyed the view of Jakarta's skyline from the large window. The menu (available in detail here ) features all the popular Italian classics, particularly pasta. The prices are rather expensive, about 20% higher than average. Pocket Size Pizza Margarita (Rp89,000+21%) Spaghettini Aglio Olio Peperoncino (Rp85,000+21%)

Bau Haus - Restaurant & Bar - Mega Kuningan

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Bau Haus 1933 is a restaurant / bar / club located in the East Building in Mega Kuningan. It is down in the basement so it is a bit hard to find if you don't ask for help from the security. It was opened by some of the people behind Lucy in the Sky in SCBD. I would define it as a trendy hipster place: The decor is made of vintage, recycled or cheap objects, assembled in a creative way. The place has an artsy feel, with references to literature (quotations in the menu), to painting (you have a large Van Gogh self-portrait on the wall) or to arts in general (the name Bau Haus is a School of Design from Germany). In spite of this laid-back, kind-of-messy approach, Bau Haus is definitely targeting the upper market crowd. Inside you will meet all the cool people in Jakarta, especially those who are now avoiding the larger bars and clubs. You will be welcomed by a chic team of PRs and waiters, and the prices are those you are charged in Union or Loewy .

Hide Yamamoto (Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Hide Yamamoto is a Japanese restaurant located in Lotte Shopping Mall in Ciputra World. It is headed by the famous Chef Hide Yamamoto who had a prestigious career as an Executive Chef for Mandarin Oriental and Ritz-Carlton. He then started to open various restaurants around the world, notably in Singapore's Marina Bay Sands. Hide Yamamoto is probably one of the best new Japanese restaurants in Jakarta at the moment. It is similar with Tatemukai in Grand Indonesia. It is fine dining, modern Japanese cuisine at relatively expensive prices. I recommend you to try it if you are already familiar with Japanese cuisine. They also have robatayaki, a private sushi room for 8 persons and 2 private Teppanyaki rooms (8 and 10 pax).

E&O Jakarta (Restaurant, Bar)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
E&O (Eastern and Oriental) is a trendy, upmarket restaurant, bar and lounge located in Mega Kuningan, not far from its main competitor in the area, Loewy (which has the same owner actually, also behind Union ). The kitchen is headed by Chef Will Meyrick, behind the famous restaurants Mamasan and Sarong in Bali. The cuisine in E&O is actually similar with that of Mamasan: Western dishes with a twist of Asia (or the contrary).

MAD Jakarta (Modern Asian Diner)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
I visited MAD Jakarta (Modern Asian Diner) in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday. It was not very crowded, as one could expect at this time of the day. MAD is currently buzzing among Jakartans, mainly thanks to the good Public Relation and Marketing team behind it. As the owner comes from Singapore (where the first MAD was opened), there is always a feeling among Indonesians that it will be modern and innovative. My first impression was good: MAD is big, probably able to accommodate over 150 people. They have a long open kitchen, a bar area and a good view over the Jakarta skyline. The menu is attractive as well. It combines various types of Asian and Western cuisine. After a second look though, I noticed that the wording of the menu was more creative than the dishes in itself. I went for an expensive dish, thinking it would be a great culinary journey: The Pan Seared Sea Bream & Mushroom Barley Risotto (148,000rp++). In non marketing words, it is a Ris

Safehouse Bar and Restaurant Jakarta (Bellagio)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
In just about a few weeks, I received 3 emails from readers recommending me to try Safehouse in Bellagio Mansion in Mega Kuningan. As I am a docile blogger, I went there last Friday with a friend. It is located where Piccolo used to be, and it is a mixed concept: Restaurant, Bar, Club, Store. It was opened by the designer and make of the sneaker brand "SomeAreThieves" (which is why the place is called Safehouse). The idea behind the restaurant was to promote the brand by attracting the trendy crowd of Jakarta. They hired Tomasso Gonfiantini, the Chef who opened the first Trattoria in Jakarta (before it changed its name to Pepenero ). He actually came to see us, which was nice, and recommended us one of his sandwiches, which according to him are the Signature food of Jailhouse. My sandwich was the "Gourmand" (95,000rp++) and it had Brie and Pesto inside a crispy, fresh baguette from Paul Patisserie. It was up to par for Jakarta, but nothi

Waroeng Ngupi Ngupi (Bellagio)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Waroeng Ngupi Ngupi is a café and restaurant, serving popular Indonesian dishes. It is located in Bellagio Boutique Mall, in Mega Kuningan area. I visited the place in late afternoon and it was the busiest in the mall, with a crowd 100% Indonesian. The place has a retro theme, with black and white pictures of Indonesia on the wall and oldies music. I tried the Nasi Ayam Penyet (43,5000rp++), which was good but not very spicy and the accompanying lettuce and tomatoes were not fresh. I also had the "Merah Putih" juice, a mix of Soursop and Strawberry juice, which was fine (30,000rp ++). Overall : I would recommend Waroeng Ngupi Ngupi if you are in Bellagio Mall area only. The WIFI was quite strong too.

Oh La La Maison

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Oh La La Maison is an upmarket version of the Oh La La cafés. It is located in Mega Kuningan in the ground floor of Bellagio Mall. It serves mostly French food, French bakery and French pastries with some other popular Asian and Western dishes. The design of the place is not extraordinary but it is neat. It features a wooden parquet, decorative tiles and various pictures or paintings of France on the walls. I tried the Honey Dijon Chicken Baguette (72,000k++): The whole sandwich was good enough but the bread was very soft and unfortunately not tasting like a real French baguette. I also had a Chocolate Croissant (20,000++), which was really big and again, far from tasting like an authentic Chocolate Croissant in France. In spite of the disappointing food, I still enjoyed Oh La La Maison. The waiters were very attentive and friendly, and the general atmosphere pleasant with good lounge music and a busy crowd.
