Nuage (Whiz Prime, Kelapa Gading, Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Nuage is the bar of the  Whiz Prime Hotel  in Kelapa Gading. It is in the same location as Level 5 karaoke and Portable Kitchen and Lounge. It is rather basic, with cheap chairs and cabanas around a large swimming pool. It is technically a rooftop bar, but only on the third floor of the building so don't expect a spectacular view. The whole complex is owned by the infamous Stadium group (Malioboro, King Cross, Exodus, Nebula). Yet, there is nothing really kinky going on in Nuage. This might explain why the place is not so busy compared to the other ones. In spite of being quiet, they have enough budget to pay a team of resident DJs as well as a regular live band. In general, the DJs will play a mix of Rn'B, EDM and Top 40. Wednesday is 80s and 90s favorites and Friday live acoustic rock. Once in a while they have ex-Stadium DJs. You can get more information about their schedule on their Instagram account below.

Hause Rooftop & Kitchen (Setiabudi)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Hause is a small bar and restaurant located on the rooftop of MD Place in Setiabudi. You have a long selection of cocktails, Western and Indonesian food, live music on selected nights, and a hipster vibe. 90% of the crowd is made of twenty-something Indonesians, among which a lot of pretty girls.  The building is only 6 floors high so you don't expect a fantastic view. There are plants and flowers everywhere and it's what I liked the most about Hause. It truly feels like an oasis in the city (especially in that area of Jakarta where you don't have any green spaces). A similar venue is Lucy in the Skye in SCBD.

Cotton Club Jakarta (Jazz and Fine Dining)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Update October 2015: Cotton Club has been replaced with Motion Blue . The Cotton Club Jakarta is a new jazz club and fine dining restaurant located in the  Fairmont Hotel  in Senayan. It is managed by the same group behind the Blue Note and the Cotton Club in Tokyo, both among the best venues in the city to listen to jazz, soul, or latin music live bands. I don't think they can offer the exact same experience as it will be much harder to attract the best international jazz performers in Jakarta. Still, it has the potential of becoming a nightlife hotspot for an older type of clientele. It will compete with nearby Black Cat in Senayan Arcadia, but also with a bunch of new upmarket lounges that have opened recently like Artoz , Hemingway or Nip And Dram .

Artoz Whisky and Cognac Bar (Jakarta)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Artoz is a whisky bar/lounge located in the Energy Building in SCBD. It replaced Marley's Bar which closed down a while ago. It claims to be the largest collection of Whisky and Cognac in Jakarta, but I am not sure it is true as I believe there is quite an extensive spirit menu in Nip & Dram as well. I visited Artoz during Ramadan, probably not the best time to do so and unsurprisingly it was empty. Artoz is similar with Nip and Dram actually, both in terms of concept, size and setting: You have comfortable leather sofas and chairs spread across a windowless room, with a bar on on side and a live music stage on the other one. The main difference I saw is that Artoz is not as dark and it seems they don't have those crazy minimum spend amounts. The prices are pretty steep still, about USD15 for a standard cocktail. You are also given the menu of the French Restaurant  Amuz , which belong to the same person (Chef Gilles Marx, also behind Auroz).

Double Doors (Expat Bar Puri Indah)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Double Doors is a live music pub located opposite of Puri Indah Mall in West Jakarta. There are not many other expat bars in the area so it attracts a small (but growing) community of foreigners. I visited on a weekday at 6pm and the place was reasonably busy with a mixed crowd of young expats and Indonesians. There were some girls too, seemingly office workers. The bar is part of the same group behind Eastern Promise , De Burse and De Hooi . The operate all their venues with a similar concept: Affordable pub food, regular events, friendly and outgoing waitresses, live music, and sports. They are not inside malls and they have a rustic charm that matches the traits of their Dutch owner Bartele Santema. The place is built on 3 floors: The ground floor is the bar area, the second floor the live music room, and the last one is dedicated to sports (or it can be booked for private events). Overall : I recommend you to visit Double Doors if you are looking for a place to social

Beer Brother Bar and Kitchen Kemang

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Beer Brother Bar + Kitchen is located in Taman Kemang, a residential area of Kemang which has seen a recent surge in bars and restaurants. This new nightlife area comprises Umbra, Cowboy Bar, Parc 19, and the Colony Building. Beer Brother opened about a year ago and it has managed to become successful rapidly. It is quite similar with other joints such as Bremer or Beer Garden , but there are a few notable differences: The design and marketing of the bar is more sophisticated and original, the music louder, and the choice of food and drinks really extensive (the menu must have 25 pages). The prices are not that cheap though except for basic beer. I was there just before a Champion's League quarterfinal, on a Tuesday, and it was full with a crowd ranging from young expats to hip Indonesians and high school kids. Most people come with a big group.

Beer Garden Menteng

By Nyoman →
After Beer Garden Kemang and Beer Garden SCBD, Beer Garden Menteng is now open, right in front of the Oria Hotel, not too far from Ocha & Bella . Same concept, same furniture, even the same Rooftop Bar like in SCBD. Those places really look alike. The place opened in October 2013 but has already a good basis of customers who already went to the other Beer Gardens. Since the place is all open, you would definitely get hot and sweaty, thus drink more beer to refresh yourself ! You get the concept ? Live bands, affordable prices and good choice of imported beers.

Hard Rock Café (Pacific Place Mall)

By Nyoman →
Hard Rock Café used to be in Ex, near Plaza Indonesia but they moved to Pacific Place Mall in December 2013. Very nice Rock decor, truly American. I am not a huge fan of this worldwide franchiseI hace to admit but in Jakarta it has a particular taste. The music and the cocktails are good, the food is very pricey: 180K for a CheeseBurger. I tasted it and it was very average and there was no pickles... I went there a couple of times and it was very busy, especially during lunch time. With Paul Bakery and Patisserie , Odysseia and now Hard Rock Café, Pacific Place Mall have some nice outdoors Restaurants and Bars.

Jimm's Sports Café Mega Kuningan

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Jimm's Sports Café is a sports bar and an expat bar in downtown Jakarta. It is not as famous and popular as nearby Cazbar , but you have friendly staff and many regulars, among which many Indonesians. Since most clients are American, British and Austalian, the sports you are most likely to watch are English Premier League, NFL, Rugby, AFL, etc... The TVs are not so big (50"), except during special events when they put a wide screen and a projector. I tried a cheeseburger (Rp60k) there once and it didn't taste very good so you can avoid the food and stick to the sport and beer. If you don't want to take advice from this blog for food, you should know that the waiter told me they serve the "best nachos in Jakarta". Overall, it is a decent bar, less crowded than other venues like above-mentioned Cazbar or Aphrodite , but certainly more laid-back. The best days to visit Jimm's Sports Café are Thursdays for its Ladies' night and Saturda

Molly Malone's Irish Pub

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
Molly Malone’s Irish Pub opened in August 2012 on the ground floor of Plaza Arcadia Senayan. It is one of two authentic Irish bars in Jakarta, the other one being Murphy's in Kemang (same owners actually). Molly’s is divided into two separate sections, a traditional Irish pub and a live music venue Overall: With its location one floor below the infamous Red Square, it is ideal to kick start your weekend. There also have three comfortable VIP booths available to rent if you want a semi private area to enjoy the live music and soak up the party atmosphere.

Amigos Restaurant (Tex-Mex)

By The Jakarta Team →
Established in Indonesia since 1979, Amigos is a popular family restaurant , the first with Mexican food in Jakarta (now there is also Hacienda ). It has two main targets, American expats who miss their tacos, and Indonesian middle class families eager to discover another continent's cuisine. Actually, we are seeing a lot more of these lately as expats are being spoiled with much better places to eat... The food is junk food, but the atmosphere is friendly. If you want to eat quietly, don't go in the evening because they have live music which can be quite loud. Happy hour from 4pm to 7pm (50% off soft drinks, juices and beer).  There are two branches: Amigos Kemang (It is the one with the best reputation) Jl. Kemang Selatan I

Asmoro Live Dangdut and Bar (Jl Blora)

By The Jakarta Team →
The most famous dangdut bar in Jakarta and probably the best. Interesting if you want to experience something different in Jakarta. A bit dodgy and not so dangerous, just a few hundred meters from Plaza Indonesia. The clients are mostly middle aged male indonesians, but there are many girls too, though not so sexy, working as prostitutes. It is quite friendly, but people look at you a bit strangely since not many foreigners come here. We had very nice parties here but be sure to be drunk first and to dance! "The first time you hate it because you don’t understand it. The 3rd, the place is yours and you are the queen of the dancefloor, requesting ‘kucing garong’." SZ For those who don't know dangdut, I found some on youtube: One of the most famous is Kucing Garong, with its unbelievable stupid video clip.. please enjoy it here . Readers with an ear for music will notice the Red Hot Chili Peppers's Otherside sample, at exactly 2:00. Another great Dangdut song is SM

The Barrels (Summarecon Mall Serpong)

By Thibaud (Jakarta100bars) →
The Barrels is one of the few decent beer-drinking joints you will find in Serpong/Tangerang. It is inside Summarecon Mal, on the downtown walk, and it basic but lively. You have a big poster of a cave with barrels on the walls, some high tables and chairs in lign, and the barrels... For a little above Rp250k, you can order a small barrel of Bintang to share with your friends. They also have local live music bands on weekends. Opening Hours: 10am to 1pm The Barrels - House of Bintang Summarecon Mall Serpong (Downtown Walk #DGF-3), Tangerang Phone: +62-21 4586 4959

BATS (Hotel Shangri-La)

By The Jakarta Team →
An all-time favourite of Jakarta's nightlife, BATS is the bar of the  Shangri-La Hotel  in Jakarta. It is the equivalent of BRIX in Grand Hyatt in Singapore .  It is very, very popular among expatriates, especially those who are already married. Easy to know why, considering the number of pretty, sexy girls . But the place isn't just about finding a partner. You can have a lot of fun partying there, because you will easily meet people in a relaxed atmostsphere.
