Jakarta Nightlife: Top 10 Nightclubs (Updated 2019)

By Jakarta100bars →
Note: I updated this review of Jakarta's best nightclubs on September 13th, 2019. I added Boca Rica, The Pallas, Swillhouse, Hotel Monopoli and removed X2, Immigrant, Empirica (all closed). The following is a ranking of the most happening nightclubs in Jakarta. If you are a newcomer to the city, I recommend you to go to the Fairgrounds complex first. There, you will find 3 venues that are listed below: Fable, The Pallas, and Swillhouse. This is an exciting and trendy party area where you will find plenty of other popular bars as well (BeerHall, Cork&Screw, Lucy in the Sky, The Dutch, Hard Rock Café, The Fools, etc). If you think I forgot to mention a venue, please let me a comment at the end of the article. Tips About Clubbing in Jakarta: Here are a few things you should know before heading for a night out: - All the nightclubs in Jakarta are expensive . Expect to pay IDR150,000 for a cocktail and up to IDR300,000 for the entrance fee (or FDC - First Drink Cha

The Swillhouse - R&B and Hip Hop Bar - Jakarta

By Jakarta100bars →
H&S Swillhouse is a hip-hop and R&B club that replaces Hide and Seek , in Fairgrounds SCBD. In the same complex, you also have popular venues such as Fable , Lucy in The Sky and The Pallas . I visited on a Friday night around 1AM. I was warned at the entrance that all the tables were occupied and that I could only stand at the bar. I was fine with it so I went inside, free of charge. The design is as minimalist as it can be. It is basically just a mid-size rectangular room with concrete walls and floors, neon lighting and sofas on the side. Positioned at the entrance, the bar is quite large and it wasn't too crowded. On the contrary, the narrow dance floor was packed all the way from the bar area up to the DJ booth. It was almost impossible to move, let alone dance. Something particularly annoying was that there is only one toilet at the back which is quite difficult to reach. While the music in Hide and Seek was often electronic/techno, the Swillhouse is f

108 Club (Previously known as Illigals Hotel & Club)

By Jakarta100bars →
Update July 2018 : Illigals just changed its name to 108 The New Atmosphere . I haven't visited yet as I'm not in Indonesia at the moment. I will write about it around August/September. From what I've heard, it's pretty much the same as before. I think the change is only a way for Illigals to keep a lower profile. Until I review 108 Club, you can read my old review of Illigals: Illigals Hotel and Club is the new BIG one stop entertainment venue in Jakarta, and it replaces the old 1001 , which used to be one of North Jakarta's most crazy place (the "sashimi sex" night club in the book Jakarta Underground). To have it name Illigals is somehow a huge provocation and a sign that some people in Indonesia can do pretty much anything they want. I don't know who the owner of Illigals is, but I can imagine he is very well protected. The owner of 1001 also has Mille's and Millennium , that also have quite a reputation for being ecstasy factori

Alexis Hotel, Club and Karaoke (Ancol) - CLOSED

By The Jakarta Team →
Update 30 October 2017: Alexis was shut down by the new Governor of Jakarta. As I explained in my article Jakarta Nightlife in 2017  (last paragraph), this was likely to happen because it was an important campaign promise. 2nd Update 10 January 2018: Alexis is still open, except for the last floor, the spa, whose activities have been transferred to 1001 and Emporium. The club and the karaoke are operating as usual. The Hotel Alexis is not really a hotel, it’s more like a bordello. You’ve got a good club downstairs, The Play, with house/progressive music and sexy dancers, and a very select lounge/spa on the seventh floor, the Bathhouse, with girls from countries as far as Uzbekistan, Myanmar or Russia coming to entertain the patrons. Entrance fee for the Bathhouse lounge is Rp. 120,000, and no drinks included. Also a karaoke on the 5th floor (I forgot the name), very nice, with flat screen TV and audio equipment suitable for outdoor concerts. Goddam expensive though, about R

Hotel Monopoli - Moon Rooftop - Room Club - Kemang (Jakarta)

By Jakarta100bars →
Hotel Monopoli is an upcoming project by Syah Establishments, the group behind famous venues like Lucy in the Sky , Sofia at the Gunawarman and Bauhaus . Located in Jalan Taman Kemang, maybe the hottest area in Kemang for nightlife at the moment, it will feature a boutique hotel, a restaurant on the ground floor, a club in its basement ( The Room ) and a rooftop bar ( The Moon ). I only saw it during a private party so I'm not sure how it will look like after the grand opening, but you can expect a trendy, yet fun vibe. Considering the Syah group's past successes, I'm certain that it will become a hit at least during the first few months after opening. I will update this page with more information and pictures once I get them. Do not hesitate to comment if you have been there. Dronk Bar and Club (Kemang)

By Jakarta100bars →
Dronk Bar and Club is located on Jalan Kemang Raya 43A in the same spot where K43 used to be (and before that, Hangover, SF Club and Second Floor). It is managed by the same people behind Tipsy, which closed down recently. The setting and the design of the club hasn't changed much so you can read my review of K43 for information about that. It is quite small, with a bar on one side, sofas on the other one, and a long table in the middle (this one is new). Customers face the DJ who is perched on a podium. A small stage allows for sexy dancers to perform occasionally.

Savoi Ultra Lounge (Senopati)

By Jakarta100bars →
Savoi Lounge is a new boutique nightclub in Senopati, just in front of Monty's , in the building where Ms Choo used to be located. It is owned by the same people behind Empirica in SCBD (Enzo Group). I visited it on Saturday 29th April 2017 at 1 AM. It occupies 3 floors: - The first one is a private room that I wasn't able to see. - The second one is the largest. It has a DJ booth, a stage, a bar, and small tables filling as much space as possible. There is no dance floor and most people are sitting down with a group of friends. It is so packed that you can easily socialize and network with those around you. That's the whole point with a place like this. - The third one is a mezzanine from where you can look at the main stage. It is a bit more quiet and relaxed, and the bar is larger.  The music is commercial EDM, Hip Hop and Top 40 at a bearable sound level. They also have live music on most days (see their Instagram ).

Troy 518 Pool and Lounge (Kelapa Gading)

By Jakarta100bars →
Troy 518 is a bar, nightclub and billiard lounge located in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. It is on the first floor of an office building, Harton Tower, next to McDonald's. Opened in mid-2016, I only heard of it recently and I visited it yesterday (Saturday, April 29th) at 2 AM.  It is a bit far from Jakarta's main nightlife district (SCBD), but at night, with no traffic, you can reach it in only 15-20 minutes.
